Bahamas and Southeast US Coast on High Alert – Hurricane Dorian Cat 5 – 160 MPH

The Bahamas and southeastern United States are bracing and preparing for Dorian, a massive Category 5 Hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center announced a  hurricane warning and watch for northwestern Bahamas on Sunday, excluding Andros Island.

Did you know Dorian is only 7 mph away from being a Category 5, which is 157 mph or higher.  Below shows the difference in the five categories.

Hurricane Five Categories
Category 1: Winds 74 to 95 mph (Minor damage)
Category 2: Winds 96 to 110 mph (Extensive damage)
Category 3: Winds 111 to 129 mph (Devastating)
Category 4: Winds 130 to 156 mph (Catastrophic)
Category 5: Winds 157 mph or higher (Absolute worst, can level homes and destroy buildings)


What does this mean for Florida?

It appears Florida may not get directly hit by Dorian, but preparation is ongoing, while some Mandatory Evacuations have been given for parts of Brevard County, Florida.  Space Coast leaders are calling on people to leave starting Sunday at 8 AM EDT.

Royal Caribbean have rerouted their ships out to sea, to navigate around inclement weather.  Their ships have the latest technology, satellites, communication equipment, along with a team of experts who closely monitor the weather.  Read More!


The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning and watch for northwestern Bahamas on Sunday, excluding Andros Island.

Florida residents are preparing for the worst, boarding up windows, stocking up on food and water.  AP Video (below) shows preparations being taken this week.


Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp declared a State of Emergency (08/29/19) in Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce and Wayne Counties to assist with preparations, response & recovery.  More Here!
