Wednesday Coronavirus Update: Engage Phase One

Wednesday Coronavirus Update: Engage Phase One

Indianapolis – April 22, 2020 – President Donald Trump opened today’s Coronavirus press briefing explaining to the American people that the “hot spots” of the Wuhanvirus are in decline and that more states will soon be in a position of re-opening.

Joining President Trump at today’s briefing were Vice President Mike Pence, Dr. Robert Redford, CDC Director, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Deborah Birx and Dr. Jerome Adams, Surgeon General.

POTUS called Dr. Redford up to the podium clear up a misquote by the main stream media (MSM) from a news article published yesterday. “I spoke to him,” Trump said. “It was ridiculous, totally ridiculous. He was talking about the flu and coronavirus coming together at the same time.”

Dr Redford said, “I really do think it’s important to clarify this. I didn’t say this was going to get worse, but rather that COVID-19 combined with influenza would be more complicated.” He added that the United States will not need to resort to the kind of mitigation we had this spring if another wave of illness comes in the fall at same time of flu season.

In addition to Dr. Redford’s statement, President Trump added “If the COVID-19 virus does comes back, it’ll be in smaller doses that we can contain. It can never be like anything we witnessed right now.

Trump reported that the United States is still currently producing hundreds of thousands of ventilators right now for any future public health emergency, but not for a resurgence of the COVID-19 virus. Referring to the media’s coverage, or lack of coverage, on products that companies in the United States are producing: “You never mention it. There’re no stories of what a great job we’re doing on ventilators.”

On the subject of media coverage, President Trump explained how the MSM is covering the topic of testing. “Let’s say we had 350 million people in the United States and you tested everyone 10 times, the media would complain that there wasn’t an 11th test,” Trump said.

A lot of media reports are surfacing, pointing to a bio lab in Wuhan as the source of this virus. “The virus should have never left that little area where it started,” Trump said. “You know it, and I know it and they know it.”

President Trump spoke with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) today and he advised Gov. Kemp that he strongly disagreed with the decision to open certain businesses in Georgia. “Too soon,” Trump said. “Too soon for spas, barber shops, beauty salons, tattoo parlors to open in phase one.” However, the president said that it was the governors’ calls nationwide.

The Trump Administration is working closely with governors to ensure they have strategies in place to mitigate the spread for the most vulnerable and Dr. Ben Carson, Secretary of HUD, will spearhead the economic initiatives for African American communities.

POTUS was proud to announced that in the coming weeks, the Air Force Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels will be performing air shows over some American cities. Calling it “dangerous work,” POTUS said the flyovers will pay tribute to the front line COVID-19 workers. Along with the flyovers, Trump announced the annual 4th of July event will be held at the National Mall in Washington D.C.

President Trump announced today, he has signed the Executive Order to temporarily halt immigration. “This will ensure unemployed Americans will be first in line for jobs as the economy re-opens,” he noted. As to amending or extending the re-opening schedule, POTUS said “that we can do at the appropriate time.”

Vice President Pence reported today that more than 47,000 people in the United States have died because of the Coronavirus. The American people mourn for those lost and pray for the hundreds of thousands infected and Pence said, “There are declines in all major metro areas around the country.”

As of right now, New Orleans is the most stable area of all the COVID-19 metro United States outbreaks and this is a encouraging sign stemming from Americans following the social distance guidelines. “This is a tribute to the American people,” Pence said. “The fastest way to reopen America is to continue to do what you are doing,” he said, noting the fact that the American people are abiding by the guidelines.

Dr. Fauci mentioned that the mitigation order for physical distancing has worked and is a successful formula. “We can now think seriously about re-opening America.” Noting that the process to re-open is not simple, Dr Fauci said, “We have to proceed in a careful measured way.”

Dr. Fauci noted,“We will have coronavirus in the fall. I am convinced of that.”  The key will be containment and he expects the country to be much better prepared the second time around.

After all remarks, President Trump returned to the podium and fielded questions from the media.
