Are You One of the Redeemed?

Are You One of the Redeemed?

This is a chorus I learned as a young man.

Acts 19:1-7 – King James Version (KJV)

<1> And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, <2> He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. <3> And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. <4> Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. <5> When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. <6> And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. <7> And all the men were about twelve.

The men listed above were disciples (church members?). Having not been baptized properly, they didn’t even know there was a Holy Ghost.

Lean not unto thine own understanding

Proverbs 3:1-6 – King James Version (KJV)

<1> My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: <2> For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. <3> Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: <4> So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. <5> Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. <6> In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Matthew 4:4 – Revised Standard Version (RSV)

<4> But he answered, ‘It is written,’Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’

Isn’t it amazing how the New Testament magnifies the Old Testament?

It’s only by and through the Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:13 – King James Version (KJV)

<13> For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Notice it is by one Spirit into one body. Not by one church or denomination. That body is the body of Christ, not man-made but Spirit born.

Concerning Spiritual gifts

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 – King James Version (KJV)

<4> Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. <5> And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. <6> And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. <7> But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. <8> For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; <9> To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; <10> To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: <11> But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

What can we do to be saved?

Acts 2:32-38 – King James Version (KJV)

<32> This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. <33> Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. <34> For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, <35> Until I make thy foes thy footstool. <36> Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. <37> Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? <38> Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Will all be saved?  Are all church members among the Redeemed?

Matthew 13:24-30 – King James Version (KJV)

<24> Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: <25> But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. <26> But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. <27> So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? <28> He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? <29> But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. <30> Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Fear God and Him alone.

Isaiah 8:6-13 – King James Version (KJV)

<6> Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son; <7> Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: <8> And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel. <9> Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces. <10> Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us. <11> For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying, <12> Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. <13> Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

As it was then, so it is now. People are swayed by what LOOKS powerful and forget to fear the REAL power of God.
