Christianity – What does it mean?

Does God have a sense of humor? Aside from the time He made me, I can think of at least one other instance where He showed it. In Luke 13:31-33 KJV the disciples tell Jesus that Herod wants to see him. His answer is very telling. “Go ye, and tell that fox . . . ”

To get the joke you have to understand something about foxes. When a fox takes over the den of another creature (foxes are too lazy to dig their own) they spray around inside, making it stink too bad for the original owner to return. This may have been a reference to Herod taking his brother’s wife for his own. The same way that false religion takes on the guise of Christianity.

Luke 13:31-33 – King James Version (KJV)

<31> The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee. <32> And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. <33> Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

The term originated in Antioch.

Acts 11:25-26 – King James Version (KJV)

<25> Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: <26> And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

What must I do to be saved?

Acts 2:37-39 – King James Version (KJV)

<37> Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? <38> Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. <39> For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Is there a difference between what Jesus said about salvation and what Peter said?

Matthew 28:18-20 – King James Version (KJV)

<18> And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. <19> Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: <20> Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Many scholars have tried to say that Jesus’ words trump Peter’s, not realizing they were not reading it correctly. Jesus said “in the name,” singular. What is THE NAME? It is The Lord (Father), Jesus (Son) Christ (Holy Spirit).

Warning against denominationalism. You must stay in the Word.

Mark 13:5-10 – King James Version (KJV)

<5> And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: <6> For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. <7> And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. <8> For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. <9> But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. <10> And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Baptized, not just in the body but in the spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13 – King James Version (KJV)

<12> For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. <13> For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Be careful who you follow.

1 John 4:1-4 – King James Version (KJV)

<1> Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. <2> Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: <3> And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. <4> Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

All hell is arrayed against the teaching that it is an individual affair between you and God alone. You MUST be born again.

1 Peter 1:22-25 – King James Version (KJV)

<22> Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: <23> Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. <24> For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: <25> But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Seek Him with all your hearts, my brothers and sisters, while there is yet time. Soon, time will be no more, whether for the world as a whole, or for you individually.  Nobody lives forever in the flesh.
