The Korbin Miracle: When God, Prayer & Physicians Team Up

The Korbin Miracle: When God, Prayer & Physicians Team Up

April 8, 2021 – Sometimes things happen that can shake your faith. At the time, you feel like God has abandoned you, and you don’t understand why this is happening to you. God always has a plan for us, even if we cannot see it at the time.

I have personally born witness to a miracle. It happened at a time when I was feeling depressed. I had been writing about very dark things and it seemed that there was nothing positive happening for me to write about. Despite this, I told my editor, “the next story I write about is going to be a positive one.”

That didn’t happen, and I wonder if the reason it didn’t is because I wasn’t looking for one. I had not sought out anything positive to write about, I guess I was just expecting the positive story to come to me.

Then news reached me which at the time left little reason to hope for a positive ending. One of our long time listeners sent me an email to tell me that her grandson was very sick, and the prognosis was not looking good:

Just please ask everyone to pray for little Korbin (aka Korbie aka Kubbie).  He needs all the prayers he can get.

From Radix:

Of course we will pray for him.

I will have folks in our chapel keep him lifted up in prayer.

From Jen:

The liver was too big for him.  Transplant is cancelled.  We need prayers that they find one in time.  Time is not on our side.

From Radix:

That’s terrible news. I’m so sorry. I am praying that they get the right size he needs, and that the blood of Jesus will heal him.

From Jen:

Phoenix Police and Phoenix Fire just did a salute parade at the hospital for him.

The video of the salute can also be seen on my Gab account at the link above.

From Radix:

That is incredible. My heart breaks for you.

God and Christ are watching over this special little one. It is all in His hands now.

From Jen:

Just a quick update.

He came through surgery in 8 hours at 10pm last night.  By 10 am today (Sunday) he was extubated and sitting up in the chair laughing and talking!!!!  INCREDIBLE!!!

The surgeon said he’s never, in all his years, encountered such a smooth surgery.  He also was very perplexed as to what he visualized with the old liver because the blood flow was perfect and when the liver stops functioning, blood ceases to flow through, yet his was.  My daughter donated his liver to research to try to find an answer as to what caused this to help find the answer and to save other children as well who may encounter this same situation in the future.  Although little Korbin’s life will forever be changed from the day to day life he knew before, we still give thanks and praise to Almighty God for all things.

You can clearly see how sick our baby was before surgery (trying to eat) and how much better he looks this morning (under his blue blanket) after surgery.

There is still a very long road ahead but he is brave.  He is strong.  He is a superhero.

She included these pictures of little Korbin in her email.

From Radix:

That is amazing! God is so good. This will make him stronger.

March 27, 2021 at 7:09am

From Jen:

Yesterday, just 6 days post-op from total liver transplant surgery, our little Korbie was moved from ICU to the medical surgery floor and got up to walk with a walker with PT!!  His recovery is astounding doctors and nurses as much as his illness did!  He is making excellent progress.

We are still waiting for testing to come back to learn the answer as to why a seemingly healthy little boy’s liver totally failed out of nowhere.  My daughter has donated Korbin’s liver to research once pathology testing is complete.  We await to find out if this was genetic or a silent autoimmune disease that was never detected until now or something new that has never been seen before.

We are still praying for answers and for him to continue on the amazing recovery path that he is on.  God is still answering prayers, still with us and still performing miracles.  My little grandson is proof of that.

From Radix:

God is so good. He shows us that his hand is on everything.

I am praying you get some answers very soon. God Bless!

From Jen:

Korbie came home from the hospital Monday evening!

He has been doing very well so far! He’s eating and drinking well and his incision and other wounds from drains and lines are rapidly healing.  We are heading out this morning for the first of many, many doctor appointments to come.

We only have pathology on the yellow goo and the hardened white area on his liver.  It showed cystic fibrosis cells in both specimens.  The complete liver study will not be in for some time.  We await further autoimmune testing to see if there is a more definitive diagnosis.  They have told my daughter there is a chance we may never get the full picture of why this happened.  Non-viral hepatitis can happen without warning even in healthy children and can be caused even by environmental factors, so we may never truly know.

But God is still good.  The sun is still shining down on Korbie’s little face and he is a testimony to God’s love, mercy, grace and answered prayers.

Little Korbie is finally back home with his mom!

Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 9:00am

From Radix:

Jen gave me permission to share Korbin’s story and his Go Fund Me for his medical expenses, his insurance is only covering part of the cost, and his mother has had to take over a month off of work to care for him. She has other children as well, and another on the way!

Korbin has been so brave and so strong!

Korbin’s Go Fund Me

Korbin is so close to reaching his financial goal, if anyone is able to help, even small donations add up. If you are not able to donate, prayers are so important. I believe our collective prayers in the Chapel helped this little boy! Here is a link to his Go Fund Me.

The story and updates above are repeated below from his Go Fund Me Page:

March 15, 2021

Alright everyone. Korbin has been at (PCH) Phoenix Children’s Hospital ER since March 8th. He started with signs of jaundice and over the last 8 days his condition as accelerated. Before this he has been a healthy happy and energetic 5 year old boy. The doctors at PCH have been left speechless as they cannot find a root cause to his illness. They have diagnosed him with acute liver failure and are doing everything they can to help him. He is at the top of the list for a liver transplant but there has been no match as of yet. He needs your help in this fight. Prayers, shares, donations, positive energies, and strength, any help you can provide is greatly appreciated by us all. Thank you.

March 16, 2021

So semi good news everybody. They found a possible 95% match for a liver for our son! There’s still a process it needs to go through tomorrow, but if it clears, is approved by us, and is approved by the surgeon at PCH, he will be getting a new liver tomorrow night at midnight! Fingers crossed and prayers in abundance! Thank you Lord, praise unto He!

Later that day:

God is so great! I cannot thank y’all that have prayed, sent well wishes and positive vibes. He 100% has a liver donor and our liver specialist team said it is perfect in everyway. As a mother this has been the most terrifying experience in my life and I can only say thank you for all of the support for my family and extended family. Even though I can’t know information about the donor due to HIPPA privacy laws…I just…I cannot express enough whoever you are and to your family how much I am so blessed that you will be my silent hero that gave my baby a chance to live. I will forever be grateful to you and your family and will constantly thank God that Korbin was given this second chance. I may not know who you are or your family, but I love you so much for being our hero and answered prayer.

Now comes the time for preoperative testing before the operation. So again I ask for all your prayers, good vibes and well wishes for the superhero of our family.

That night:

Bad news guys…

I am struggling to stay afloat right now…the liver was too big for Korbin. Procedure cancelled. I feel so out of my element and I was told this would be a perfect match….but with this heartbreak is the disappointment I guess all parents feel when their baby is sick…

But we CANNOT lose faith. I need you all now. My son NEEDS you all now. Hold faith. Hold strong. And pray. This is not the end. We will not surrender. And Korbin will pull through this. Love, support, strength, hope, and faith guys. We need as much as you can offer of these. Thank you.

March 17, 2021

It sounds like Korbin is doing ok and feeling alright. He had another surgery done today to remove excess fluid from around his lungs. They IV logged him and are trying to correct it. He just got out of that and they removed 400ml. He’s doing good though from what I have been told.

March 20, 2021

They found a donor. It just cleared this morning. He’s in surgery right now for the transplant. Thank you God. All praise be unto Him who delivers miracles and healing by His hands. Thank you God.

Our first and second liver donor fell through…but GREAT news we were blessed with a third and HE is in the Operation room getting set up for the transplant he so desperately needed. Our secret hero that blessed our baby with a second chance to live! My baby is getting a liver!!

Later that day:

Korbin is getting out of surgery right now. Everything went smoothly, he did amazing, and his new liver is in and functioning. Waiting on further updates but everything sounds like it went perfect. Many thanks and prayers to the family of the donor. For while we may celebrate the new life our son has been given, another family mourns the loss of a hard farewell to their little one who so bravely gave his/her liver in their last moments. I cannot thank them enough for giving our son a fighting chance at living a full life. I hope in some way they know how much this means to us all and that we honor and thank their child and them for the gracious blessing they have bestowed upon us.

March 21, 2021

Korbin is our Ironman. He is doing amazingly. He is already awake, breathe tube is out, catheter is out, his IV’s have been reduced, so he’s not hooked up to so much. Our little boy is a tried and true superhero. He is in a full swing of recovery and shining brilliantly.

March 23, 2021

Korbin is doing ok, but his blood levels now are dropping. They are checking for internal bleeding, but they are worried his body might be rejecting the transplant or his bone marrow is either not producing blood cells or its destroying them faster than its creating them. They are leaning toward an autoimmune disease.

March 25, 2021

Korbin’s vitals and all levels have stabilized and he’s in a good position for recovery. Everything seems to be going great, thank you all for your continued support and strength. We still have a ways to our goal so please share and spread his story. Thank you.

March 29, 2021

First and foremost, thank you everyone for the continued and uplifting support. The vast amount has been humbling and so deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Korbin is on a good road to recovery and is doing well. He is making small steps and strides each day. Everything on the medical end is looking to be on the right path, but we are still shy of our goal. Please support, share, donate if able, and keep praying. We vastly appreciate each and every one of you to no end and all of has been a beautiful blessing in our time of hardship. Thank you so very much, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

April 6, 2021

Wonderful news everyone!!! Korbin has been discharged from PCH and came home last night. He is now home again and tracking well for recovery. We are so close to our goal now guys and we all cannot express enough appreciation to each and every one of you that made it possible. The vast support and strength has humbling and such a blessing. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. We appreciate each of you so very much. Thank you.

Korbin is so blessed to be home. As you can see from the story, at just five years old he went into liver failure out of the blue. He has gone through two different transplant donors that ended up not working out and not fitting. During this time while he was waiting for the transplant, he could easily have passed away because his health problems were that serious.  Kubbie’s miracle lasted just as long as was required to find that third donor.

What a blessing to be able to have gone through this with Korbin’s grandmother and to share his story with you all!

Korbin is a little miracle! We know that God answers our prayers and that Jesus protects the little ones.

May the Lord continue to shine his light on little Korbin and keep him healthy and safe.

Even when things were looking really bad for little Korbin and the family thought he might not make it, they never wavered in their faith. They continued to pray, as did our PSB community, and to believe that God would make a miracle happen for Korbin, and He did!

God knew I was needing something positive, before I did. When Jen first reached out to me, while I prayed fervently I worried this might be another depressing story. Then I told myself, I am going to write a positive story. Little did I know at the time, God had just sent it to me. He knows what we need before we even know we need it.

Since its inception, PSB members have gathered in a “Chapel Room” in our internal comms system. Whether going through difficult times in our personal lives or just coping with the anxious moments in the turmoil of the world, the Chapel has been served many. It has been a blessing to have a group to talk about Jesus and discuss the Bible. A powerful force of spiritual comfort, the Chapel group has prayed against all manner of spiritual warfare as well.

I hope you have found this story edifying and renewing if your faith has been lacking lately. It is truly a testament to how good God is. He never abandons us, even when we are feeling alone. He is always with us, and He is always working miracles. You have only to open your eyes and look and you will find them.
