Rep Dan Crenshaw: Criticism of Israel Not Protected Under 1st Amendment

At an event on November 4, 2019 Congressman Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) suggested that criticism of the State of Israel should not be protected speech under the First Amendment.

The questioner asked about federal laws that are now requiring contractors to sign a pledge that states they will not participate in the Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) movement, or the voluntary boycott of the State of Israel over what activists see as human rights abuses.

The audience member also brought up a law that was recently passed by the state of Florida prohibiting anti-Semitism in public schools and universities throughout the state but is written in such a way as to conflate “anti-Semitism” with criticism of the Israeli State.

There is a big difference between targeting a group because of their race or religion, and criticism of a military power. Not all members of the Jewish community are supportive of the State of Israel, and some are even part of the BDS movement themselves (see image below).

When asked by the audience member directly “Will you honor your oath and denounce these laws here, now and forever?” Crenshaw deflected and attacked the motives of the questioner instead of providing a thoughtful answer.

Crenshaw claimed he was calling out the ‘bad intentions’ of the audience member who asked the question and accused him of  “cloaking yourself in the First Amendment” as an excuse to engage in what he termed “vehement anti-Semitism.”

This isn’t the first time the junior Congressman has displayed a seeming betrayal of his supposed conservative and America First priorities.

Dan Crenshaw has also voiced support for Red Flag ‘gun control’ laws that most conservatives believe are Orwellian pre-crime gestapo-like measures.

This story is still developing. Please check back for updates.

Wow, as much as I hate the Democrats, I don’t know what to say about this.

And then you have that Senator in Idaho who want to let all the Kurds in.

Here’s a more recent article… Goforth, who won more than 30 counties, including many Trump carried in 2016, said Bevin has a lot of work to do to fortify the GOP base. The freshman legislator noted a feud between Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton, a former tea party activist, and the Bevin administration, over the firing of her deputy chief… Read more »
